Taper Your Training

Taper Training

For good race preparation, taper off your training 2-3 weeks before the main event. Reduce the
volume of the training gradually by 60%. This can be done by either reducing the number of training
sessions or the amount of training performed in a session.

Reasons to taper:

  • Reduces training fatigue
  • Allows muscle to repair
  • Stores up glycogen in muscles
  • Reduces the risk of injury

Training too hard just before the performance day can lead to last minute injuries, and there is too
little time for recovery at that stage.
