Pilates for Rehab

Pilates is a form of exercise that targets the core of the body, i.e. the abdomen, back and hips. The exercises involve a series of controlled movements of the arm and leg that strengthen the abs, hips and back. It also increases flexibility and improves posture. The Pilates method utilizes the whole body instead of isolating a muscle and working it. This increases the level of resistance, making Pilates more intense than regular exercises.

PhysioRehab’s Pilates for Rehab consists of the Stott Pilates exercises that are designed to prevent and treat injuries, increase the strength of muscles around the joints, and prevent muscle imbalances.

We will design a tailor-made program to suit your individual needs and will carefully supervise you as you steadily progress from Mat Pilates (floor based exercises) through to the Pilates Reformer.

Our Physiotherapist address the problem/injury/dysfunction by incorporating Pilates’ core stabilization principle, thus correcting posture, improving muscle performance and developing efficient motor control. These are the same concepts that form the basis of the physiotherapy rehabilitation and exercise therapy.

The benefits from Pilates are numerous, such as:

  • Flattens, tones and strengthens abs
  • Longer, leaner muscles
  • Improves posture
  • Prevents injury
  • Increases circulation, relieves tension
  • Enhances body awareness
  • Balance strength with flexibility
  • Heightens concentration
  • Enhances athletic performance
  • Boosts self esteem

Apart from fitness and weight loss, we also offer Post-Natal Pilates sessions to help you rehabilitate muscles and posture.
